Who would have ever thought that we’d discuss motorcycles powered by electricity? Harley-Davidson electric motorcycle? Naaahh.
Well, believe it or not, this is a reality. Harley designed their electric motorcycle prototype named LiveWire in 2014 and all of us at The Man agree that it looks pretty slick. Test LiveWire motorcycles were delivered to drivers in the States and Europe in 2015, rather silently. The company didn’t want to make a big deal out of it, logically considering the reputation and audience they have. But the public on the other hand, went so far as to name LiveWire the most radical move from Harley-Davidson since its foundation in 1903. We can not agree more. Electric motorcycles are definitely the largest possible direction change for all motorcycle manufacturers out there. This will definitely cause dramatic changes in the industry. And much more obvious changes than in the electric car industry, for instance.
In January of this year, Harley announced that their electric motorcycle is entering production and will hit the market in 2020. LiveWire will carry an approximately 50-mile range and will be able to go from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 4 seconds. We can all notice that LiveWire accelerates like a sports bike, and a fast one too.
Harley-Davidson Scooter you say?
But that is not all. The Company threw more surprises to their crowd. Harley announced that they will deliver more electric motorcycles in 2022. Harley-Davidson portfolio will consist of “two-wheelers,” as the company said, which most probably means it might have scooters in its future. Very interesting we say.
All things considered, it will be pretty exciting to see how the motorcyclists’ community will respond to this change. Especially the fans of HD. We should all agree though that one thing is clear and that is the fact that Harley-Davidson is making bold moves at this time where electric motorcycles are a more futuristic idea than a reality.
Harley-Davidson LiveWire. Obviously, the future just arrived.
