Is city running your thing?
This morning I was as usual driving to my downtown office and at one moment during a regular traffic jam, I notice a guy running. Carelessly and passionately running, wearing a great looking hoodie and a pair of wireless bluetooth headphones. WOW, he must be having a great time, I thought. I watched him in my rearview mirror and thought, I will be that man in the next couple of day. City running, here I come.
Running is not my favorite outdoor activity but it definitely holds a very high position. Even though I like to do my runs in the park, I always thought of city running as a great discipline for body and soul. Your senses are irritated and excited at the same time while running through the city streets. What else can you expect from a life in a big city?
Besides, you can dress in an urban and interesting style and make a fashion statement with a good looking hoodie, a pair of sneakers and flashing color combinations. You can test your gadgets in the city traffic. And listen to your best music playlists mixed with car sirens and chatting people. I’ve been doing this regularly while riding my bicycle and I have to say, that is really something. You can feel the life of the city. All that makes you feel more alive and pumped, to say the least.
Let’s say that you decided to test your self in city running. Cool. One thing to bear in mind though. Running on hard ground is not something your knees and joints will find amusing, so you should consider getting yourself some decent gear, like proper sneakers for instance. This is important. And don’t forget to check for the weather! If the prediction is rain, you maybe should consider waterproof sneakers with the anti-slip system. Consider thermal tights, wind-jackets, and some clothing that well absorbs sweat for colder days as well.
Also try to wear brightly colored clothing and reflective gear, particularly if you are running at dawn or sunset. You understand that running in the city means running around a lot of cars and you definitely want to be seen. I personally always bring my ID when going downtown for exercise and some money for just in case.
Listening to some good music is recommended but at the same time kind of dangerous. You do want to hear the surroundings and the crowd. So be aware, listen to music cautiously. Try to switch the buds once in a while.
And once again, let’s not forget, this is hard court. Do we have to mention how important it is to stretch before a run? This is essential before practically every physical activity, especially one that demands more out of your body strength.
OK, so… Now that we’re ready, lets hit the streets.
We made you a City Running playlist as a bonus, for a full experience and pleasure ⏯
See you around the corner!
